Change your password or email

Change your password from the Account page — it signs out every other computer. The email address on an account can't be changed in the app.

Your password is also the key to your encrypted data, so changing it is an account-wide event: every other computer signed in to the account is signed out and needs the new one.

🔑 Change your password#

  1. Open Account in the sidebar.
  2. In the Your account panel, click Change password….
  3. Fill in Current password, New password and New password again. The new one needs at least 12 characters.
  4. Click Change password, then confirm at the dialog Change your password?.
  5. The button reads "Changing…" for a moment, then a toast says Password changed.

The warning under the fields is the part worth reading twice: every other computer is signed out and has to sign in again with the new password. That's also how you cut off a computer you no longer have.

What happens on your other computers

If no browsers are open there, that computer simply returns to the sign-in window. If browsers are open, it shows This computer has been signed out, explaining that the profiles and any open browsers are untouched — they live on that machine — and that closing the browsers and restarting LoginDeck will let it sign in again.

Your profiles are not re-encrypted from scratch

A password change re-wraps the key that protects your data, which is why it's instant. Nothing is re-uploaded and nothing needs rebuilding.

Messages you might see#

"The two new passwords do not match."

The two new-password fields differ. Retype both.

"that is not the current password"

The Current password field is wrong. If you don't know it, sign out and use Forgot password? instead — see Forgot your password.

"that is the same password"

The new password is identical to the current one. Pick a different one.

"use at least 12 characters — this password is what stands between a copy of the server and your proxy credentials"

The new password is too short. Twelve characters is the minimum.

🔵 If you created your account with Google#

A Google account is created around a random password nobody types, so there's no current password to enter and Change password… can't be used. Give yourself a real password instead:

  1. Sign out (Account → Sign out).
  2. On the sign-in window, click Forgot password?.
  3. Set a password with the code emailed to you.

After that you can sign in either way, change the password normally, and sign in offline.

🚫 Don't know the current password?#

Use Forgot password? on the sign-in window. It sends a code to your address and lets you set a new password, keeping every profile exactly as it is. See Forgot your password.

📧 Changing the email address#

The app can't change the address on an account, and two accounts can't be merged. The address you signed up with is the account.

If you need a different address, email support@logindeck.com from the address on the account and say what you need.

If you'd rather move to a new account yourself:

  1. Select the profiles on the old account and use Export to write them to a file. It carries profiles and the saved proxies they use — but not cookies, so export the cookies of any profile whose login you need to keep: Import and export cookies.
  2. Create the new account and import the file: Back up profiles to a file and import them again.

Two gotchas before you try that

  • One free account per person, per computer. The first account used on a computer holds that computer's free plan, so a second free account can't be created there. A paid plan works on any computer. See The free plan.
  • Export files are sensitive. They hold proxy passwords, saved logins and 2FA keys in plain text. Keep them off shared drives, and delete them when you're done.

👥 If you're working in someone else's workspace#

Change password… and Close account are hidden while you're inside a team workspace, because they belong to your own account rather than to the workspace you're looking at. Switch back to your own workspace first: Account → Workspaces → your email → Switch to this.

ℹ️ Good to know#

  • A password change ends Google sessions too, and rotates the key the app uses for your phones used as proxy devices. Both reconnect on their own.
  • It doesn't remove computers from your plan's count. They stop counting 30 days after their last use. See Use LoginDeck on another computer.
  • Lost or stolen computer? Change your password. That signs it out. The profiles already on its disk stay there, because they're local files.
