LoginDeck ships as one installer for Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit: LoginDeck-Setup-<version>.exe. It installs for the current Windows user and does not ask for administrator rights. See Install LoginDeck on Windows for the normal path through it.
This page is for when that doesn't go to plan.
π‘οΈ "Windows protected your PC"#
A blue full-screen panel from Windows SmartScreen, shown for installers it hasn't seen many people run yet. It is about how new the file is, not about what's in it.
- Click More info.
- Check the file name is
LoginDeck-Setup-<version>.exe, downloaded from logindeck.com. - Click Run anyway.
If you don't see Run anyway, your organisation has locked SmartScreen down. Ask whoever manages the computer.
π¦ The installer disappears, or the browser won't start afterwards#
Antivirus. A fresh installer and a browser engine that isn't Google's are both things heuristic scanners dislike, and the file is usually deleted with no message.
- Open your antivirus's quarantine or protection history and look for LoginDeck.
- Restore it, and add an exclusion for the LoginDeck folder.
- Download the installer again and run it.
The two folders worth excluding:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The app itself | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\LoginDeck β the installer's default, unless you changed it |
| Your profiles, browser engines, logs and settings | %APPDATA%\LoginDeck |
Windows Defender is not usually the culprit; third-party suites are.
π±οΈ I double-click LoginDeck and nothing happens#
LoginDeck is already running. Only one copy may run at a time β two copies would share the same profiles and fight over them. A second launch exits immediately and brings the first window to the front instead.
If no window appears, the first copy is minimised or on another monitor. Find it with Alt+Tab, or end LoginDeck.exe in Task Manager and start it again.
If the window opens white or blank, or vanishes after a second, the app wrote down why. Open %APPDATA%\LoginDeck\data\logs\app.log and read the last lines β that file records crashes, a renderer that died and the reason. Send it to support: Send logs to support.
π₯ "LoginDeck hit an unexpected error"#
A Windows error box with that title carries the fault underneath it. Copy the whole box, then:
- Close and reopen LoginDeck. Many of these are one-offs.
- If it comes back every time, email support@logindeck.com with that text and
app.log.
Your profiles are not in the program folder, so reinstalling is safe β but send the text first, because a reinstall hides the evidence.
β¬οΈ An update won't install#
The About page shows the update state in one line. The failures:
| Line | What it means |
|---|---|
| Update check failed: β¦ | The app couldn't reach the update server. Check that a proxy, VPN or firewall on your own network isn't blocking cloud.logindeck.com, then press Check for updates. |
| v0.1.209 is downloaded and ready to install. but installing does nothing | Antivirus is blocking the installer step. Exclude the two folders above, then press Restart and install again. |
| Updates are unavailable. / In-app updates are not available on this platform yet. | This build can't update itself. Download the current installer from logindeck.com and run it over the top. |
Installing over the top is always safe: your profiles, proxies, cookies and settings live in %APPDATA%\LoginDeck and are not touched by an install, an update or an uninstall.
If the app won't start after an update, the updater keeps its own log at %APPDATA%\LoginDeck\updater.log β one folder above the rest. Send that one too.
More on how updating works: Updates to LoginDeck and its browser engines.
β¬ The engine download never finishes#
The browsers are not inside the installer; they download the first time you need one, and a banner across the top of the window reports progress. {name} download failed with a Retry button means the download was interrupted.
- Press Retry. Downloads resume where they stopped.
- If it fails repeatedly, something between you and
cloud.logindeck.comis cutting the connection β a corporate proxy, a filtering DNS service or an aggressive firewall. - Check you have disk space. A Chromium engine is a few hundred megabytes, and each browser version you use is a separate one.
π I can't sign in#
- "cannot reach cloud.logindeck.com β β¦" β the app has no route to the server. Same causes as above.
- "that password does not open this account" β the password is wrong. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you created the account with Continue with Google, you never set one: use Forgot your password.
- "no account with that email on this server β create one, or check the address" β the address has a typo, or you haven't signed up yet.
- A frosted card over the window is a different problem: "Computer limit reached".
βΉοΈ Good to know#
- Uninstalling keeps your data. The uninstaller leaves
%APPDATA%\LoginDeckalone, so reinstalling finds everything where it was. To start genuinely clean, delete that folder by hand after uninstalling β which deletes every local profile, so export first. - You don't need administrator rights to install or update.
- On a Mac, the build is for Apple silicon and is notarized, so Gatekeeper doesn't complain. The equivalent folders are
~/Library/Application Support/LoginDeckand~/Library/Application Support/LoginDeck/data/logs. - Always include your Windows version and the LoginDeck version from About when you write in: Contact support.
