🆘Forgot your password

You can reset your LoginDeck password yourself, from the sign-in window, with a code sent to your email address. Nothing in your deck is lost: your profiles, proxies and logins stay exactly as they are.

🔁 Reset it#

1. At the sign-in window, click Forgot password? (it's beside "Create an account", on the sign-in form).
2. The title changes to Reset your password. Your address stays filled in — check it's the right one.
3. Click Send code. A line appears: "If you@example.com has an account, a code is on its way. Check spam too — it expires in 15 minutes."
4. Open the email titled "Your LoginDeck password reset code" and copy the code.
5. Type it into Code from your email.
6. Type a New password of at least 12 characters.
7. Click Set new password. It reads "Setting your new password…" for a moment, then signs you in.

⏱️ The rules#

• A code lasts 15 minutes and works once.
• 5 wrong attempts, then ask for a new one.
• 60 seconds between sends.
• Once the code is accepted, finish setting the new password within 10 minutes or start the reset again.

🔵 If you created your account with Google#

Google accounts are made around a random password nobody types, so Change password… inside the app can't work for them. Forgot password? is the way to give yourself a real password — after which you can sign in either way, and sign in offline.

🧾 Messages you might see#

"that code is not right"

Check for a typo. Case and the hyphen don't matter, but the characters do. After five wrong tries you'll need a new code.

"that code has expired — ask for a new one"

Codes last 15 minutes. Click Send code again.

"too many wrong codes — ask for a new one"

Five wrong attempts used up this code. Click Send code again.

"that reset took too long — start it again"

More than 10 minutes passed between entering the code and setting the password. Start again from Forgot password?.

"this account cannot be recovered automatically — please contact support"

The server can't open its recovery copy of your key. Email support@logindeck.com with the address on the account.

No email arrives at all

Check spam first, and wait the 60 seconds before pressing Send again. If nothing comes and the address is definitely right, it may be an older account that hasn't signed in since automatic recovery was added — see below.

🕰️ Older accounts#

Password reset relies on a recovery copy of your encryption key, which the server started keeping in September 2026. Accounts created before that, on a computer that hasn't signed in since, have no recovery copy yet, and for those the reset can't send anything.

If you're in that position, email support@logindeck.com. If you can still sign in with your password on a current version of LoginDeck, do that once — the recovery copy is stored then, and resets work from that point on.

🔐 How this squares with the encryption#

Your records are encrypted on your computer before they're uploaded, with a key derived from your password. To make a reset possible at all, the server also keeps a sealed recovery copy of that key, which only it can open, bound to your account.

That's a deliberate trade: without it, a forgotten password would mean a permanently unreadable deck. Exactly what's held where is written out in How your data is protected.

ℹ️ Good to know#

• Nothing is deleted and nothing is reset except the password. The reset email says the same thing, so you can trust a genuine one.
• Reset from any computer. You don't need the machine you usually use.
• If you know your current password, use Account → Change password… instead, which needs no email round trip.
