Computer limit reached
What the frosted card over the window means, how computers are counted, and how to get LoginDeck working on this machine.
On this page
When this computer may not use this account, LoginDeck frosts the window over and puts one card in the middle explaining why. Nothing on the computer has been deleted, and nothing in the account has changed.
The card steps aside on the Billing and Account pages, because that is where the ways out are.
There are four versions of it. The small grey line at the top of the card β the kicker β tells you which one you have.
π» "Computer limit reached"#
The card's title names the number: This account is already on 3 computers.
Pro covers 3 computers, and this one would be one more. Upgrade for more computers, or keep using the account on the ones it is on.
The two buttons are Upgrade for more computers and See this account's computers.
The card's small print is the bit people miss:
A computer drops off the list 30 days after it was last used, so replacing a laptop sorts itself out. Nothing on this computer has been deleted.
What to do:
- Replacing a computer? Wait it out. A computer stops counting 30 days after it was last used, and then this one fits. Nothing else is needed.
- Need it now? Move up a plan. Free covers 2 computers, Pro 3, Team 10 and Custom 25.
- Sharing with a team? Read the next section β this is the usual cause.
Your team's computers count against your limit
Computers are counted across the whole workspace. Every computer your members sign in on counts against the owner's plan. A Pro owner with 3 members is a 4-computer team on a 3-computer plan, so somebody will see this card. Team covers 10 computers and Custom 25.
Changing your password signs every other computer out, but it does not remove them from the count. Only the 30-day window does that.
π "This computer's free plan is taken"#
Kicker: One free account per person.
The free plan is one account per person. This computer was first used with the account below, so its free plan belongs to that account.
The account that holds this computer is named on the card, and the second button reads Sign in as {that address}.
Paid plans work on any computer, so upgrading this account unlocks it here straight away, and nothing in it has been deleted. If someone else shares this computer and needs their own free account, email support@logindeck.com.
What to do: sign in as the account named on the card, upgrade this account to a paid plan, or β if someone genuinely shares the computer and needs their own free account β email support@logindeck.com and say so.
Making a second free account on the same computer is the thing this check exists to stop, so a second one for a VA on your own PC will not work. Give them their own computer, or invite them to your workspace (they still need their own computer or a paid plan). See How teams work.
π‘ "This network already has a free account"#
Kicker: One free account per person.
Another free LoginDeck account is in use on this internet connection. The free plan is one account per person, so this one needs a paid plan to work here.
The other account is never named β on a shared connection it could be a stranger's.
Free accounts are counted by computer and by internet connection, so two can't run side by side from one home or office. Paid plans work on any network: upgrading unlocks this account here straight away, and nothing in it has been deleted. On a shared network, like an office, school, cafΓ© or VPN? Email support@logindeck.com and we'll sort it out.
What to do:
- The hold on a connection lapses 7 days after the account that holds it was last seen there. If a housemate signed in once, waiting clears it.
- Upgrade either account. Paid plans work on any network.
- On an office, school, cafΓ© or VPN connection, email support@logindeck.com β this is exactly the case support can lift.
β¬οΈ "Update LoginDeck to keep going"#
Kicker: Update needed.
This version cannot tell which computer it is on, and the free plan needs that. Update to the latest version and sign in again.
Update the app, restart it, and sign in again. See Updates. Paid plans don't need this check.
π¨οΈ The same thing as a dialog#
If you are already working when the block arrives, you get a dialog instead of the frosted card. Titles: Too many computers on this plan, This network already has a free account, Update LoginDeck, or This computer's free plan is taken. The body ends:
The free plan is one account per person. Nothing on this computer has been deleted.
The button is See plans.
π Messages when you try to create an account#
These come up on the sign-in window, before you have an account at all:
- "This computer already has a LoginDeck account (bβ’β’β’@example.com). Sign in to it instead. If you need a second account on this computer, email support@logindeck.com."
- "There is already an account for this inbox (bβ’β’β’@example.com). Sign in to it instead."
- "Too many new accounts from this internet connection. Try again tomorrow, or email support@logindeck.com."
- "Update LoginDeck to create an account: this version cannot tell which computer it is on."
- "Use a permanent email address. Throwaway inboxes cannot hold a LoginDeck account." Disposable-inbox domains are refused.
See Create your LoginDeck account.
π§Ύ Where to see your computers#
Account in the left sidebar lists every computer this account has been signed in on, with when each was last used, and lets you rename this one. The list keeps computers that have already stopped counting, so it can be longer than your limit β the limit only counts the last 30 days.
There is no "remove this computer" button. Computers age out on their own.
βΉοΈ Good to know#
- Windows reinstalls, new Windows user accounts and app reinstalls do not make a new computer. The hardware is what is recognised.
- Profiles already on a blocked computer stay on it β they are local files. Only sync and launching stop.
- Once you upgrade, press Refresh on the Billing page and the block lifts straight away.
- Still stuck? Email support@logindeck.com with the card's title and the address you are signed in as. See Contact support.
