Sign in, sign out and switch accounts

How the sign-in window works, what "Keep me signed in" stores, signing in without internet, and what happens to your profiles when you sign out.

On this page

LoginDeck shows its sign-in window before the main window opens. A computer that has signed in before arrives with your email already filled in, so it's usually a password and a click.

  1. Check the address in Email.
  2. Type your Password and click Sign in. The line under the button reads "Checking your password…" for a second or two — the app is deriving your encryption key, which is deliberately slow work.
  3. The main window opens on All profiles.

The eye button beside the password shows what you're typing. It always starts hidden again next time.

Sign in with Google is there too, if you made the account with Google or have since used Google on it.

Keep me signed in on this computer

Ticked (the default), your key is stored in this computer's keychain — DPAPI on Windows, the Keychain on a Mac — so LoginDeck opens straight into your deck. Unticked, it's held in memory only until you quit, and you'll type your password at every start.

The Account page shows which applies, under Key: "in this computer's keychain", "in a local file — no keychain available", or "in memory only, until you quit".

📴 Signing in without internet#

If this computer has signed in to that account before, you can sign in offline. LoginDeck checks your password against what it cached, opens marked offline — "Signed in — starting offline" — works from the plan limits it last saw, and syncs as soon as the network is back.

On a computer that has never signed in, there's nothing to check your password against, and the window says so: "This computer has not signed in before, so there is nothing saved here to check your password against. Connect to the internet once and it will work offline after that."

An account created with Google has no password you know, so it can't sign in offline. Set a password once with Forgot password? if you need that.

🚪 Sign out#

  1. Open Account in the sidebar.
  2. In Your account, click Sign out.
  3. Confirm at the dialog Sign out of this account?

The dialog says what matters: your profiles stay on this machine, signing back in needs the password again, and any profile this computer has open stops being claimed, so your other machines can open it.

  • With no browsers open, the window closes and the sign-in window appears.
  • With browsers open, they stay open. The Account page shows a Signed out panel with a Sign in now… button; pressing it closes the window and reopens the sign-in screen, and your browsers keep running.

Signing out doesn't delete anything

Your profiles, cookies and proxies stay on this computer's disk. Signing out only stops this machine syncing and releases its claims on profiles.

🔁 Switch to a different account#

There's no account switcher. Sign out, then sign in as the other account.

Each account signed in on one install keeps its own profile folder, so signing in to a second account shows only that account's profiles. Nothing is merged, moved or mixed, and switching back brings the first account's deck straight back.

Switching accounts is not the same as switching workspaces

If you've been invited into somebody's team, their profiles are a workspace you switch to from Account → Workspaces, while staying signed in as yourself. See Join a team and switch workspaces.

🧾 Messages you might see#

"no account with that email on this server — create one, or check the address"

No account exists for that address. Check for a typo, or click Create an account. Sign-in and sign-up are separate, so a mistyped address never quietly creates a second account.

"that password does not open this account"

The password is wrong. Try again, or use Forgot password? to set a new one by email — your profiles are unaffected by a reset.

"too many attempts — wait a minute and try again"

A rate limit on the server, counted per internet connection. Wait a minute and try again.

"cannot reach https://cloud.logindeck.com"

LoginDeck can't get to the server. Check your connection, and whether a VPN, firewall or antivirus is blocking it. If this computer has signed in before, it falls back to an offline sign-in.

"This computer has been signed out"

Another computer changed the account's password, or the account was closed. Your profiles and any open browsers are untouched — they live on this machine. Close your browsers and restart LoginDeck to sign in with the new password.

A blurred card covers the window

This computer isn't allowed to use this account: a free plan is already held on this computer or this internet connection, or the account is on more computers than the plan covers. The card names which, with a way out. See The free plan and "Computer limit reached".

ℹ️ Good to know#

  • Closing the sign-in window quits LoginDeck, and so does Esc. There is no signed-out mode of the app.
  • Sign out to cut this computer off, change the password to cut off another one. Changing your password signs out every other computer: Change your password or email.
  • Signing in on a new machine counts toward your plan's computer limit. A computer drops off the list 30 days after it was last used. See Use LoginDeck on another computer.
