Updates to LoginDeck and its browser engines
How LoginDeck updates itself, why it never restarts on its own, where the release notes are, and how the browser versions are downloaded separately.

LoginDeck keeps itself up to date in the background. It never installs an update on its own, because installing closes every profile browser you have open — that's your decision, not the app's.
🔁 How updating works#
- LoginDeck checks for a new version about 20 seconds after it starts, then every 10 minutes.
- A new version downloads in the background while you work.
- Nothing is installed until you say so. Not even on quit.
When a version is downloaded and waiting, a banner appears across the top of the window:
LoginDeck v0.1.209 is ready to install.
with Restart and install and Later. Later hides the banner for that version; the update is still on disk, and the About page can install it whenever you like.
If profile browsers are open, the banner says so — "Installing closes 3 open browsers" — and Restart and install asks first, in a dialog titled Install update, with the button Close and install.
Your logins are safe through an update
Cookies and logged-in sessions are on disk and survive. Only the running windows close. An update never touches your profiles, proxies or cookies.
On Windows, a small Updating LoginDeck… window appears while the program files are replaced, then LoginDeck reopens on its own.
If a script is driving a profile
Anything connected through the local automation API loses its connection when the browsers close. Finish or stop your runs before installing. See Get started with the local API.
🔔 The bell#
The bell in the top bar is where update news and release notes land.
- Update available — 0.1.209: "Downloading in the background. You will be asked to restart when it is ready."
- Update ready — 0.1.209: "Downloaded and waiting. Restart LoginDeck to install it; running browsers close first."
- One entry per new version, listing what changed.
A red dot means something is unread, and opening the panel marks everything read. Mark all read and Clear are at the top of the panel. Empty, it reads "Nothing yet. New releases and update alerts land here."
Windows also shows a desktop notification, LoginDeck 0.1.209 is ready, once per downloaded version. Clicking it brings LoginDeck forward.
Release notes are filtered to your computer
Since v0.1.206 the notes list only the changes that apply to your operating system, so Windows-only items don't clutter a Mac.
🕹️ Update it yourself#
Open About in the sidebar and look at the Updates panel. The status line tells you where things stand:

Check for updates looks now instead of waiting for the timer.
🧩 Browser engines update separately#
The browsers your profiles run on are not inside the installer. They download once, on their own, and every profile that uses a version shares it. That's why an app update is small and quick.
A banner at the top of the window narrates engine downloads:
- "Downloading Chromium engine — 42% (80 of 190 MB)"
- "Verifying Chromium engine…"
- "Installing Chromium engine…"
- "Chromium engine download failed — …", with a Retry button
- "Chromium engine is not installed yet."
You can work in the app while this runs. A profile can't launch until the engine it needs is installed.
🧱 Chrome versions on the About page#
About lists every browser version this LoginDeck can run, one row per Chrome NNN:
installed · 155.0.8059.12— on disk and ready.198 MB on the feed— available, with a Download button if you'd rather fetch it now than on first use.- A progress bar while it downloads, or "download failed — …" with Retry.
- The version that shipped with your install is marked default engine.
Remove frees the disk space again. A version that one of your profiles still uses is never removed.
Each version is roughly 200 MB. New profiles start on the newest version the feed offers; existing profiles keep the version they were saved with, so an account never sees its browser number change underneath it. See Chrome or Firefox, and which browser version.
Which versions you can pick
The list depends on your operating system. Windows currently offers several Chrome versions; the Mac build offers one. The About page always shows what's really available to you.
ℹ️ Good to know#
- Why the Chromium number matters. It's the version a detector reads. If a profile that used to pass starts failing, check whether its browser version changed before you change anything about the profile.
- Windows and macOS both update in place. There's no Linux build.
